Creature Comforts for the Music Festival Campsite

Biolite Fire Pit instead of a campfire

What does it take to create a rockin’ music festival camping experience? Last time, we discussed planning, thought, ingenuity, creativity, and an adventurous spirit. Combined, they capture just the right fest vibe.

This time, we’ll look at two more accessories. One can be found at almost every campsite. The other should be.

Creature Comfort Furniture. We’re all familiar with the basic camp chair, mostly for its discomfort. Reclining gravity loungers are awesome, but big and heavy. Newer to the scene is the banana-looking “lounger.” Now the inflatable lounger has evolved to a single, more upright inflatable chair. The Trono chair inflates the same way the banana shaped loungers do: open the flap, “scoop” up air, and close. When not in use, it rolls up to a very small light package.

Another type of chair we’ve discovered that is one of the smallest and lightest chairs is great for use at shows and waiting in line, though not an ideal campsite chair: the Kelty Linger Low Back Chair. Not inexpensive at $100, its the best built camp chair you can buy and has a lifetime warranty. Chinese copies can be found on Amazon for approx $35, but you get what you pay for. Kelty quality is second to none. Kelty has a full line of top of the line campsite chairs and loungers of various sizes. One day I’ll have a complete set of campsite furniture by Kelty instead of the mash up of broken and limping chairs that have seen one too many festival.

Forget the Logs, Use a Fire Pit. A fire at the campsite is essential. Our Florida basecamp doesn’t often enjoy perfect campfire weather. Often times, campsites and festival grounds have strict campfire restrictions. Even when there are no limitations, good fire pits have some great features and won’t kill the budget.

The Biolite Fire Pit has features its competitors do not. It produces minimal to no smoke, compared to other new fire pits on the market. The Biolite offers the best views of your crackling fire by way of what they call the “Xray mesh body.” Its folding legs lift the unit off the ground and simplify portability and storage. Since it is raised off the ground and can be fed wood or charcoal, there shouldn’t be any situations where you won’t be permitted to use this fire pit / grill. The Biolite has hands down the best (and expandable) cooking options. I’d look for more campfire goodness to evolve for this fire pit, and look for an in-depth review from #RoadtripMojo.

The right accessories can add up in price. But you don’t have to break the bank. Buy accessories along the way as your RoadtripMojo develops. In no time, you’ll have amassed the creature comfort products to build a music festival campsite that rocks.

Bonus Tip: Enlist the crew. Yes, there are times that we can only hang at a site for a day or two, and we scale back our efforts. But that’s never something we plan intentionally. Having a spirited team to help set up and breakdown camp certainly gets things done much quicker, and over time it’s fun to see which team members excel in different areas of design.

With each successive festival, we add features like lasers, decorative entrances, and other “homey” touches that creates the right vibe for us. It’s a dynamic being that just keeps on Roadtrippin’!
