Cookin’ Up Music Festival & Campground Meals in the RV Outdoor Kitchen

Since many people will be at the Florida RV Super Show this week, here’s another look at outdoor kitchens. This under-appreciated feature on select RVs and travel trailers truly elevates the camping experience…

Here at RoadtripMojo, we’ve written a lot about the music festival and RV camping experience. While we dig writing about festival venues and our latest campground experience, nothing jazzes us more than seeing some new outdoor kitchen. Yeh, we’re kinda quirky that way.

So Imagine our elation when we saw a few new innovations from the latest RV show. Outdoor kitchens have come a long way, baby. And we’re stoked to learn about the latest takes on one of our favorite RV design upgrades.

From Hotels to RV Camping to Yurts, A New Spin on the “Working Vacation”

It’s a magnificent Sunday afternoon on the banks of Florida’s Myakka River. I’m perched at a picnic table, cigar burning, Keller Williams streaming his stuff on the Bluetooth speaker. The sky is powder blue, a breeze is blowing. No place could be finer…

… to open my laptop and draft some words for some paying clients.

I’d wager some people’s opinions just went from “very cool” to “Dude, close that damn laptop and be present!”

Safe Distancing, Vaccines Bringing Music Festivals Back

Under a slow but steady rain on a North Florida spring night, some 700 music lovers gathered for the Funky Mardi Gras concerts. Huddled in makeshift shelters or their golf carts, or dancing under the stars and rain, they were undeterred by anything Mother Nature could send their way.

After all, for many, it had been a year or more since Mother Nature had rained hell on humanity in the form of a pandemic. It had been that long since many had experienced live music in person. So with the social distancing guidelines promoters at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park crafted, they were determined to make the most of it.

“We loved last weekend,” enthused festival veteran Matthew O’Brien. “Driving our golf cart on to the show field and being together with our crew was the best. It was a fun, safe and convenient way to enjoy the show. Can’t wait to do it again.”

It seems O’Brien will get his chance.

FloydFest Odyssey Returns to Music Festival Scene

What a long strange trip it’s been since the last live music festivals were held in 2020. One fest that’s sailing into the summer 2021 scene is FloydFest Odyssey 21. Producers plan to bring it alive after sitting out its first season since its debut in 2002. FloydFest hadn’t missed a beat until coronavirus came along and wiped out it – along with hundreds of concerts and other festivals – from the 2020 docket.

Producer Sam Calhoun was there when the wrenching decision was made to pull the plug on FloydFest 2020. We spoke with him two years ago about the fest’s journey to date. And when we spoke with him this month, he was eager and committed to bring it back, safely and magnificently.

Themed Odyssey 2021, the show slated for July 21-25, 2021, in bucolic Floyd, Virginia, will feature a stellar line-up across five-day fest promises to deliver big on Calhoun’s own vision of “looking ahead to a brighter day.” [BUY tickets here; ENTER to win a 5-day pass here!

Great Gear Makes Music Festival & RV Camping Site

Festival camping is about more than pulling in, setting up, and heading out to see the show. When the stage lights go down and you’re headed back to the RV or tent campsite, does the party go dark – or rage on? With a few choice accessories, some planning, even a hand from fellow campers or your crew, you can make sure your campsite rocks. Even if you’re not festival camping, lights, tarps and accessories elevate the experience.

Google “festival camping gear” and it’s likely “Festival camping survival gear” will pop up. It’s not about survival; it’s about thriving. Festival and event producers spend thousands, possibly millions of dollars to amp up their ear and eye candy for attendees. Why not rise to the challenge?
