When #RoadtripMojo went on the hunt for Facebook Like No. 450, the winning Like went to Ian Easton, a Gainesville, Fla., resident and big-time music lover. For his efforts, Ian landed himself a sweet double hammock.
What does it take to create a rockin’ music festival camping experience? Last time, we discussed planning, thought, ingenuity, creativity, and an adventurous spirit. Combined, they capture just the right fest vibe.
This time, we’ll look at two more accessories. One can be found at almost every campsite. The other should be.
When I tell people that we’re embarking on a two-week workation adventure in a 25-foot recreational vehicle — “balk” is the best word to characterize their surprise.
Cramped. Constricted. Confined.
Confused.
But working from an RV traveling the American South is anything but any of those.
I guess a workation is what you make of it. With broadband wireless, netbook and laptops, and all the trappings of modern life — tucked neatly into a late-model RV, we’ll have what we need to stay connected and for me to get my job done.
Want crazy? Camping retailer REI says the sale of single-family tents were up 17% this June over last. That’s crazy? Where will you put the 23-inch TV?
Surely I jest. I grew up tent camping throughout Florida. Good times.
Email’s important to me. I wouldn’t say I live and die by the stuff, or need it as much as air, water and bread. But when I’m on the road for three weeks, it’s a close fourth. It was pretty important that I received my email messages while on home office highway. Just look a the places I went with my data device in tow (then imagine being my wife or kids — especially with that turkey leg shoved in my mouth)…
When I first saw the RV we’d be driving for Home Office Highway, I wondered how I’d make the most of what was by all accounts a miniature space.
Some concepts and practices fell right into place — like using the Mobile Office Workmate or keeping clutter to a minimum. And some were learned, and depended upon the tools we had on hand.
Check out this video to see two examples of how I used off-the-shelf devices to maximize available space.
