7 Steps to Curb Waste at Campsites and Music Festivals

It’s a conundrum for campers of all stripes. We want to get back to the outdoors and feel at one with Mother Nature. But when we break camp, do we leave behind more than a molehill of trash. It can be no small mountain of shame. Whether camping to take in the outdoors or a music festival, how can we curb consumption and waste and leave the site better than we found it?

It goes beyond the old adage, “Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.” That’s been a warm and endearing mantra for years. Contrary to what Mr. McGuire told Dustin Hoffman’s Ben in The Graduate, plastics suck – especially when roadtripping. A frightening / sickening / maddening National Geographic report from a few years back noted that mankind has generated 8.3 billion metric tons of plastics in about six decades since its widespread introduction.

Pro Tips to Upgrading Your RV, Camper Stereo

We recently explored the idea of upgrading your camper’s stereo system from the lousy, two-bit stock system to something that really rocks. We let Nick Mullins tell the story of how he and Kris Hall mostly gutted the stereo in their travel trailer to replace it with some serious tunage. Soulshine Farm Music Fest: A Mountaintop Camping Feast for the Senses

Soulshine is a song that has always meant something very special to me. I’m not really sure when it began, but it’s been one of those songs with meaning that struck a chord with me. Maybe it came at Lockn Festival, when my wife, Jen, and I stood about 10 feet from Warren Haynes as he serenaded us with Soulshine into Tupelo Honey back into Soulshine. That show was the most expensive ticket I’d ever laid my hands on, but it was her birthday, after all.  It was a memorable moment that could not have been sweeter.

Peaking at FloydFest in the Blue Ridge Mountains

FloydFest is billed as “five days of Music, Magic, and Mountains” featuring adventure, vendors, food, brews and more than 100 artists. It helps that campers enjoy that same experience. After all, when camping atop a mountain – the Blue Ridge Mountains, no less – the experience peaks like the altitude itself.
