Minnie Winnie Drivin’ Music Festival Fan Wins RoadtripMojo Hammock

RoadtripMojo first met our latest hammock winner at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park’s Suwannee Rising music festival last spring. Kym Campbell Eckard and husband, Joe, were camping on the Loop two spots down from us. When we weren’t at the Mushroom or Peach stages for The New Mastersounds, Melody Trucks Band, Lettuce, Dumpstaphunk, or Oteil & Friends, we were marveling at the Eckards’ rig. That bright blue Winnebago Minnie Winnie captured our attention. So we introduced ourselves to take a peek inside and out and learn more. We’re RV junkies that way. Then again, whether you’re tenting, pulling a trailer, or driving a retro rig or a million-dollar coach, most camping folk wanna see what the other guy’s got.

Then, the festival was over and we went our separate ways.

Tommy Can You Hear Me? Hearing Protection for Music Festivals

Hearing protection is something most music festival attendees don’t often think about. Maybe some should. Small, easily stashed, and far less costly than hearing loss itself, a couple of small earplugs are always a good option to have when needed. Sometimes, the most advantageous or memorable perch we can find is smack in front of a huge bank of speakers or sub-woofers. They rattle your soul and eardrums alike. You’ve just spent a couple hours at a crushing Umphrey’s set, or maybe you’re in the midst of Day 3 of Electric Carnival – and your eyes and ears are asking for a little relief.

When Music Festival Tunes Come From the Campsite

Looking to upgrade your camper’s stereo system? Aren’t we all? We met a couple at Lockn’ Music Festival – Kris Hall and Nick Mullins – who mostly gutted the stereo in their travel trailer and installed a serious system. Their story is below. Warning: Audiophiles will dig the depth of detail Nick queued up. Others’ eyes may glaze over. Pro Tip: Even if you don’t have a camper or care about AV, find people like Kris and Nick who do. They’ll have the best sound around.

Unleashing Your (Inner) Child: Camping & Music Festivals For All Ages

By Jeff Zbar

Time was when this music festival-going parent saw a weekend retreat to a music festival as an escape from the demands of family obligations. I mean, I was an involved dad and all. When they were squirts, I was the lone daddy who took our kids to “Mommy and Me.” As they grew, I shepherded them to dance competitions and travel hockey tournaments.

But what could be more escapish than critter-free times with a group of friends unleashed into our favorite music and camping scene, with a few libations and whatnot thrown in – especially with the kids in their mother’s able (maybe more able than my own) hands?

Siberia No Longer: Bands, Music Festivals Calling On South Florida

Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule at Boca’s Sunset Cove

If you’re a live music-loving South Florida native, it’s a great time to get your tunes on. It wasn’t that long ago that the southern stretch of the Sunshine State was a musical Siberia. Plenty of arena- and stadium-filling acts – Elton John, U2, The Rolling Stones, and Lady Gaga – would regularly and dutifully venture south of Orlando, bringing in tow tickets ranging in the hundreds of dollars – before the scalpers unleash their bots and resale pillaging.

But bands more befitting a smaller theater or concert hall – and tickets rarely topping $30 – avoided the last 200 miles of the state. After all, 400-plus miles r/t is a heluva road trip to play to a few hundred loyal fans.
